The Most Common Repair Points on a Bobcat Tractor
Everyday tractor repair is easier than you think. With regular inspections, you can keep your Bobcat® compact tractor in great condition, which saves you time and money down the road. These are the key areas we recommend checking. Check out our quick guide to Bobcat tractor repair!Â
1. Examine the Engine Belt
The engine belts in your Bobcat tractor power the alternator, radiator fan, hydraulic pump, and water pump. If these aren’t inspected regularly, you could see serious engine damage.Â
Tips:Â
- Look for cracks, rotting, or slippage on the beltsÂ
- Replace worn or damaged belts immediatelyÂ
2. Keep the Radiator Screen Clean
A clean radiator screen maintains airflow and keeps the engine from overheating. Dust and debris can quickly clog the screen.Â
Tips:Â
- Inspect and clean the radiator screen on a regular basisÂ
- If cleaning isn’t cutting it, replace with a new Bobcat radiator screenÂ
3. Check Your Tires
Tire damage stinks. Make sure they’re always properly inflated and in good condition.Â
Tips:Â
- Check for cracks, cuts, leaks, and gougesÂ
- Monitor PSI levels and adjust based on your Operation & Maintenance ManualÂ
4. Inspect Your Filters
Filters protect your tractor’s engine from dirt, debris, and contaminants. Check for clogs and replace as needed.Â
Tips:Â
- Clean air filters with compressed air to increase their lifeÂ
- Replace fuel filters at scheduled timesÂ
- Use high-quality oil filters to protect the engineÂ
5. Test the Battery
Extreme temperatures and age will decrease the power of your tractor’s battery.Â
Tips:Â
- Look for corrosion on terminalsÂ
- Replace batteries every 3-5 years (or whenever power is no longer reliable)Â
6. Keep Your Fuel System Clean
Bobcat tractors have polymer fuel tanks to prevent rust. But we still suggest keeping an eye on the fuel system.Â
Tips:Â
- Use clean, fresh fuel to avoid buildupÂ
- Add a fuel stabilizer during off-seasonsÂ
7. Maintain Your Hydraulic System
Hydraulics power the tractor’s attachments and operations. Make sure you keep these in good condition.Â
Tips:Â
- Check hydraulic fluid levels regularlyÂ
- Inspect hoses and connections for leaks or wearÂ
- Replace hydraulic filters (check your manual for the maintenance interval on this)Â
Seasonal Maintenance Checklists
Spring Maintenance ChecklistÂ
- Look for cracks, cuts, or wear on tiresÂ
- Check hydraulic fluid levels and refill if neededÂ
- Clean the radiator screenÂ
- Test the battery and clean terminalsÂ
- Replace or clean air filtersÂ
- Change the engine oil and replace the oil filterÂ
- Grease all lubrication pointsÂ
Winter Maintenance ChecklistÂ
- Add a fuel stabilizer (prevents fuel degradation when you’re not using the tractor)Â
- Drain water from the fuel separator (to avoid freezing)Â
- Store the tractor in a dry, covered area (inside storage is best)Â
- Remove and store the battery in a warmer location to preserve its chargeÂ
- Use a trickle charger to maintain it during storageÂ
- Check the cooling system (and flush it if needed)Â
- Grease all moving parts (prevents freezing and rust buildup)Â
