Field Service FAQ
A:Â When equipment breaks down or requires maintenance, you have two primary options. You can have your equipment repaired on site, or you can take it to our shop for repairs.
On-site equipment repair is usually referred to as field service, but it isn’t only for emergencies. It can also include routine on-site equipment maintenance and services.
Another alternative is to take your equipment to our dealership for repairs. With shop repairs, equipment must be transported to the dealership, and most repairs are made in order they are received, many you could get in line behind 7-14 days of previous drop offs. We are happy to arrange trucking with one of our delivery trucks or an outside hauler to bring your equipment to the nearest dealership.
If your need is urgent and you want to skip the line, you can pay a little bit more to have our field service technicians come to your yard or job site. This will include a trip charge and slightly higher hourly rate to offset the cost of drive time, fuel, and outfitting a service rig with parts, crane and tools.
A: Here are some of the many reasons our customers choose field service from Bobcat of North Texas. Field service can reduce downtime, cut transportation expenses and keep a jobsite on schedule.
One reason to consider field service is the busy schedule at jobsites. When you can’t afford to have a machine out of service for several days — or even several hours — on-site repair can be the answer. Since field service technicians are available with very little lead time, they’ll get your equipment back to work quickly. Many businesses also schedule on-site maintenance during scheduled down time so that they can stay on schedule.
Another reason to consider field service is if the equipment has broken down in a way that immobilizes it. This can include damage to the hydraulics or transmission system. It can also include engine damage. Finally, issues that affect the track or wheels on equipment can immobilize it. In these situations, you can actually do more damage if you attempt to transport this equipment to a shop. On-site repair can either resolve the issue, or get the equipment working long enough to get it to a shop to finish repairs.
A: Bobcat of North Texas has intentionally and strategically chosen to dispatch their team of field service personnel from a single point of contact for our customers. This allows us to have a team dedicated to the unique needs of field service customers, and field service technicians. We can track the progress and location of our trucks and techs throughout the day, help find parts at the nearest of our 10+ dealership locations, and have most work completed and billed out within 24 hours. This has an added benefit of allowing our Shop Service Managers to focus on the technicians in their building, for even greater customer service for our valued customers.
One of our favorite aspects of the centralized field service team is their accessibility. They are available by texting their direct line at 972-483-9111. They will send you a text to let you know the expected arrival time for your technician, along with that person’s photo, so you’ll recognize them by face upon arrival. You can even send our field service staff photos or videos of what you are seeing and experiencing with your equipment!
A:  There are two main types of field service available to customers at Bobcat of North Texas: Full Service Trucks and Maintenance Vans. When you’re considering field service, you may have questions about how each type of field service works, and about which type is right for you.
Full Service Trucks
Many people think of our Full Service Trucks when they consider field services. When you use our full service trucks, a Bobcat factory trained technician will come to your jobsite to repair broken or damaged equipment. Full Service Trucks are often used when equipment is immobilized.
Common reasons for Full Service Trucks include:
- Warranty Work
- Repairs
- Damaged engines or transmissions
- Issues that affect the tracks or wheels on equipment
One of the biggest benefits of our full service trucks is that you don’t need to transport the equipment. If an engine, transmission or track system is too damaged to allow equipment to move under its own power, it’s a good time to use this service.
Full service trucks are also used when you need to get equipment back to work immediately. If you have specialized equipment, or finding a replacement will be difficult, consider using our Full service trucks.
Maintenance Vans
The second type of field service offered is achieved with our Maintenance Vans. Technicians will come to your jobsite on at Bobcat recommended intervals to replace your equipment’s filters and/or fluids. Many people schedule interval maintenance at the jobsite, because they won’t lose equipment for a full day.  With on-site scheduled maintenance, you can keep your equipment in good shape and get back to work immediately after the service.
Bobcat of North Texas customers tell us they also value the lower service call fee with the maintenance vans, and the ability to have a quick turnaround. We are able to offer a lower fee on the maintenance vans as the capital investment for outfitting these nimble vehicles is less than that of a full service truck. The labor rate for both types of vehicles is the same. But what they really love is that they can have several pieces of equipment undergo the interval maintenance without paying for additional service call fees – only paying the difference in parts and labor for the work performed.
A:Â Many people are surprised by the range of repairs that can be done in the field. Technicians can repair damage to the electrical system and attachments like buckets or blades as part of a field service call. We can also repair damage to the engine, transmission system and hydraulics in the field.
Our full service trucks are fully equipped with diagnostic equipment and repair tools. We can access data from your equipment in the field to determine how well it’s performing, and make repairs right there. Service trucks have the equipment needed for making hydraulic hoses, repairing electrical systems and replacing hydraulic lines. We also install cranes on our trucks so that we can perform heavy repairs like track replacements safely in the field.
But of course, not all repairs are mechanical. Bobcat factory trained field service technicians can install the latest software updates during field service as well.
